The device has an annular rib immersed into an annular groove that is filled with magnetorheological fluid, where immersion depth of the rib into the groove is adjustable. A front wall (6) and a wall (7) of a shear gap are adjustable to limit a portion of a separation gap (3) that is partially filled with the magnetorheological fluid. The walls of the shear gap are placed relative to each other such that a magnetic field is penetrated into the shear gap, where geometry of the shear gap is adjusted between minimum and maximum values for transmission of forces.
