PURPOSE: An Ethernet physical layer device using TDD(Time Division Duplex) is provided to perform high throughput Ethernet packet transmission in a network link using a single-pair cable. CONSTITUTION: A TDD frame is defined(602). An uplink direction transmitter receives transmission control based on a TX_ON signal which is generated by a controller of a first physical layer device during a first transmission section of the TDD frame(604). The first physical layer device receives data during a second transmission section of the TDD frame(606). Lengths of first transmission sections and second transmission sections are adjusted based on availability of the data(608).
