A ball bearing assembly comprises an annular inner ball race 14, a metallic cup-like outer race 30 concentric with the inner race and surrounding bearing balls 20, the outer race having at its outer periphery an integral circumferential rim 40 which engages in a slot 56 of an annular shell 44 of plastics material which is concentric with and encircles the outer race. A washer, preferably of metal, 60 may be included in the assembly between the wall and the balls, and the annular ring may carry a flange 52. In assembling the bearing, the outer race is forced into the annular ring which is readily deformable. The slot 56 may be preformed or may be formed when the rim of the outer race is forced into the plastics material. |
