PURPOSE: An operation and display device of an automatic defog system and a method for controlling the automatic defog system using the same are provided to selectively operate the operation of the automatic defog system by using an operation button and to display the operational state of the automatic defog system with an indicator. CONSTITUTION: A method for controlling an automatic defog system is as follow. A controller displays the on-state of the automatic defog system with an indicator of an operation button when a user turns on the operation button after starting an engine(S11). The controller receives the signal of a temperature sensor and a humidity sensor(S12,S13) and determines whether or not current indoor conditions satisfy automatic defog operating conditions based on the detected temperature and humidity of a windshield(S14). When the automatic defog operating conditions are satisfied, the controller operates an air conditioning device in an automatic defog mode and displays the operation state of the automatic defog mode with the indicator of the operation button.
