PURPOSE: The apparatus and method of protecting human from electromagnetic waves are provided to reduce electromagnetic waves radiating to human body by changing operation frequency and controlling the radiation pattern of an antenna. CONSTITUTION: A sensor(200) senses surrounding environment. A variable element unit(220) performs a variable operation according to a voltage or current applied from the outside. A variable element controlling unit(210) controls the voltage or current for the variable operation performance. An intelligent periodic structure(230) is combined with the variable element unit. The intelligent periodic structure controls the radiation pattern direction of an antenna.
