1,205,021. Hypodermic syringe. E. KATZ. 23 Feb., 1968 [25 Nov., 1966], No. 52998/66. Heading A5R. An injection syringe comprises a barrel 1 (of glass or plastics) with a piston 4 in one end and a rupturable seal 3 closing the other end, this latter end having a resilient sleeve 15 fitting over it. A cylindrical plug 8 sealed around a double-ended needle 7 has a flange 14 which fits tightly into a groove 17 in the sleeve and the needle is protected by a shield 11 (e.g. of plastics) which fits over one end of the plug 8 and is adapted to fit into the piston 4 to form a plunger when removed. The syringe is filled and sterilized in the state shown in Fig. 1, and to make it operative, the needle and plug are urged towards the barrel so that the flange 14 engages the second groove 18 in the sleeve and the needle punctures the seal (see Fig. 2). The shield is then removed and attached to the piston. In a modification, (Fig. 4, not shown) the sleeve and shield are united by a connecting piece which may be stripped away to allow the needle to travel towards the barrel. |
