An asset condition monitoring system has a plurality of sensors 5 for taking readings of operational variables of an asset such as a plant 2, a condition monitoring device 7 and a feedback controller 6. The feedback controller is arranged to receive data 3 indicative of the operational variables measured by said sensors and to generate one or more internal signals (8a, 8b, 8c, fig.2). Those internal signals are used by the feedback controller to generate control instructions for controlling operation of the asset. The systems condition monitoring device is arranged to receive one or more of the internal signals from the feedback controller and to determine an operational condition or health of the asset based there-upon. The monitoring unit may also receive the control instructions from the feedback controller and/or the operational data from the sensors. The asset may be an aircraft engine (12, fig.4). The controller may be a PID controller. |
