<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a planar light source device having such a composition as to hardly cause color irregularity or brightness unevenness between display region units in the planar light source device of a partial driving method. <P>SOLUTION: The planar light source device comprises P×Q pieces of planar light source units whose light emission states are independently controlled and illuminates a transmission type liquid crystal display device from the back surface with white color light, wherein a light source constituting each planar light source unit is provided with a first light emission element group, a second light emission element group and a third light emission element group, and at least the first light emission element group comprises N pieces of first light emission elements (therein, N is an integer of two or more) and, when respective dominant wavelengths of N pieces of first light emission elements are λ<SB>1_n</SB>(therein, n=1, 2 to N and λ<SB>1_1</SB><λ<SB>1_2</SB>< to <λ<SB>1_N</SB>) and the set dominant wavelength of the first light emission element group is λ<SB>1_PD</SB>, λ<SB>1_1</SB><λ<SB>1_PD</SB><λ<SB>1_N</SB>is satisfied. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
