Accumulator comprises a molten salt medium containing and conducting ions and a pair of facing electrodes carrying opposite charges with a separator between them the whole producing an electric potential between the electrodes externally. Specifically the medium includes a cation of the alkaline or alkaline-earth metals and an anion of nitrate, nitrite or halide. The separator may be of BeO, ThO2, MgO, LiAlO2, BN, Si3N4, AlN or mixtures of these.
