Apparatus by which blood samples may be simultaneously collected from a patient into a plurality of separate containers while using a single needle comprises a holder 12 fitted with a plurality of containers 9 for the blood samples, a permanently open inlet fitting 8 provided at the mouth of each container, and an adaptor 1 having at one end a nipple 2 for removably receiving a single needle 4 and permanently open passages 6 connecting the nipple to orifices to which the container inlet fittings are detachably secured. As shown, the holder is fitted with two collapsible containers 9 which may each contain a different anticoagulant and/or reactant, and the containers may be collapsed prior to being used to collect the blood by a bar 13 which may be moved in slots on the holder. A cap (11) may be moulded to the inlet fitting 8 of each container and used to close the nipple 14 on the fitting while the blood filled containers are sent. for analysis. It is stated that the containers may, alternatively, be uncollapsible and formed with air vents. |
