摘要 1277915 Sampling blood &c GILFORD INSTRUMENT LABORATORIES Inc. 4 June 1969 [28 June 1968; 5 Dec 1968] 28345/ 69 Heading B1X [Also in Division A5] A device for sampling blood &c comprises an evacuable glass tube 40 which is engagable with a plastics member 16 having a cannula 32 of, e.g. stainless steel. The tube 40 has a closure 42 with a thinned end wall 50 forming a diaphragm pierceable by the cannula 32. Inside the closure 42 is mounted a rubber &c. plug 52 with a concave end face 54 which forms a liquid receiving chamber 56 with the diaphragm 50. The plug 52 has a plurality of orifices into which are inserted the open ends of capillary tubes 62, which have closed ends mounted in a plug 51 of an air cured elastomer or a partition. The tube 40 and closure 42 are assembled in a vacuum, a passage 66 being provided to equalise the vacuum between the chamber 56 and the interior of the tube. In use, blood &c. flows along the cannula 32, through the diaphragm 50 pierced by the cannula, and into the chamber 56 and capillary tubes 62. The plug 52, Fig. 5 (not shown), may have a planar end face (54) and be retained in place by a metal sleeve (72). The plug 52 may have a recess (56'), Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown) forming an enlarged liquid receiving chamber (56) and a lateral passage (80) communicating with a valve in the form of a hollow and slidable needle (82), with a removable cap (90) and an orifice (92) to place the chamber 56 and the tube 40 into and out of communication. The needle (82'), Figs. 8 to 10, (not shown), may have an end (98) open to the atmosphere and a further orifice (92') separated from the orifice (92) by a plug (96). The orifice (92') enables the tube 40 to be communicated with the atmosphere. Two slidable needle valves (102), (104), Fig. 11 (not shown), may be provided in the plug 42, the first to put the chamber 56 and the tube 40 into and out of communication, and the second to close and open the tube 40 to the atmosphere.
