A nutraceutical supplement for administration to humans in the form of a semi-rigid gel. The semi-rigid gel preferably has compression strength from 30g to 120g and a pH from 3.5 to 4.5. The nutraceutical may comprise at least one hydrocolloid e.g. alginate, guar gum, xanthan gum etc. The nutraceutical may comprise an anti-oxidant, a skin rejuvenating active ingredient, a blood cholesterol lowering active ingredient and additional ingredients such as sweetener, preservatives, colourings etc. Also shown is a method for making the nutraceutical comprising (a) combining a blend of dry ingredients comprising at least on hydrocolloid with water and mixing; (b) heating the homogeneous solution from 85°C to 100°C; (c) holding the heated solution at 85°C to 100°C to activate the hydrocolloid; (d) cooling to a temperature of 40°C to 60°C; and (e) pouring the cooled solution and allowing to solidify. |
