A craft board assembly, suitable for holding and supporting a work piece 10, comprises a substantially flat, rigid board base 11 having front and back faces and at least one side edge. The front face has a non-slip surface 12. One or more elastically deformable retaining means 14, 17, 20, retain work in place on the non-slip surface 12 and can be hooked into any of a plurality of retaining recesses 13, 15, 16, 18, 19, 21, 22, positioned around the edge of the base 11. A protrusion is formed between adjacent recesses, with each side edge of the craft board having at least three retaining recesses. A work aid, suitable for use with the craft board, with at least two opposing edges having recesses and protrusions to correspond to those of the craft board, may be in the form of a stencil, or may comprise a working edge, including a straight edge.
