1,204,936. Metallizing graft polymer. DYNAMIT NOBEL A.G. 4 Oct., 1968 [6 Oct., 1967], No. 47275/68. Heading C3G. [Also in Division C7] A thermoplastic graft polymer produced by grafting vinyl chloride on to a diene polymer is sensitized with stannous chloride, activated with silver nitrate, coated with a metal such as Cu and/or Ni and/or Ag by electroless deposition and finally coated electrolytically with a metal such as Cu, e.g. from a CuSO 4 bath, Ag, Au, Ni, Cr. An ethylenically unsaturated monomer copolymerizable with vinyl chloride, e.g. vinyl esters, esters of unsaturated acids such as acrylic and methacrylic acids, and vinylidenechloride may be grafted on to the diene polymer in addition to the vinyl chloride. The diene polymer may be natural rubber, a butadiene polymer or a chlorobutadiene polymer with a molecular weight of 1000-5000. The diene polymer may be copolymerized with 0.1-40% of styrene. The graft polymerization is effected in known manner by emulsion, suspension or bulk polymerization at - 60‹ to + 80‹ C. Prior to sensitizing and actuating, a sheet of the graft polymer is degreased, pickled in chromosulphuric acid and neutralized in NaHSO 3 .
|
