Waving method and machine for inserting wefts in a sheet of tow warps to hold it together. B2A. Involves separating alternate groups of warps into a shed by means of one or more toothed members, the wefts to be inserted over and under alternate groups. A reciprocating carrier supporting a hollow needle inserts the wefts. The toothed member can be a wheel, and the armature of a solenoid clamps the inserted weft at one side of the sheet. A comb with teeth adjustable as to spacing varies the sheet width. The tension in either the warps or the weft is sensed by a breakage or excess-tension operated stop motion feeler. The sheet is heated after insertion of the wefts.
