A pneumatic tyre contains, on each side of the mid-circumferential plane, at least one circumferential shoulder reinforcement layer 5, 6, of rubberized parallel cords lying in radial planes, the space 8, 9 between said reinforcing strip and the carcass ply 1 containing a rubberlike composition of hardness at least equal to that of the material in the adjacent regions. The layer 5, 6 may be an extension of the bead turn-up layer 1a (Fig. 2, not shown). Other modifications are described in which this reinforcement comprises two plies in each shoulder, the cords of the plies lying at equal and opposite angles to the mid-circumferential plane of between 0 and 30 degrees, and there may be several rubber-like layers of different hardness in the space 8, 9. |
