Quantity reduction of the undesirable cpds. is effected by maintaining thermal equilibrium during the transitional phase and keeping the melt zone constant. For the physical separation of different successive batch types a non-metallic material that melts at melt zone temp. is charged and melted. Pref. stones, synthetic slag and mixtures of these are used as the non-metallic material.
