1,218,918. Filling electric cells. SOC. DES ACCUMULATEURS FIXES ET DE TRACTION. 21 Aug., 1969 [11 Sept., 1968], No. 41859/69. Heading H1B. An activatable electric cell or battery 1 is provided with a filling nozzle 8 having a tapped central duct into which is screwed one end of tube 13. The other end of the tube is situated in the nozzle 7 of filling reservoir, a ring 9 being situated between the two nozzles and the reservoir nozzle being closed by a partition 11. Activation is effected by removing the ring and moving the reservoir towards the cell or battery so that the partition is pierced, broken or torn by the end of the tube. The reservoir may contain electrolyte. For example, in the case of a lithium-copper sulphide cell it may contain lithium perchlorate dissolved in a mixture of tetrahydrofuran and ethylene glycol dimethyl ether. The reservoir may have a knurled stopper on the top which should be removed before activation to allow air to enter. It may be used to close the filling nozzle of the cell after activation. The nozzles and ring may be of polypropylene or PTFE. The tube may be of aluminium. The ring and nozzles may be of the same diameter in which case they may be surrounded by water-repellent tape. |
