Prevention of transmission loops in a redundant ring network

The method involves transmitting data from one of network devices (406) of a communication network (402) to another network device of another communication network (404) and/or from the former device to a third network device over two redundant transmission paths. Retransmission of the data from the latter network to the former network is prevented during transmission from the former device to the latter device based on predefined information. The information is provided with two parts such that the data comprises one of the parts and coupling nodes (408-414) comprise the other part. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a coupling node with multiple ports for connecting communication networks (2) a computer-readable storage medium comprising instructions for performing a method for redundant communication of data in a communication system.
