Rigid compact fuel cell assembly in which a network of feed and discharge channels for 2 liquids is provided to ensure circulation of electrolyte and 1 reactants, by elongated surface projections on the surfaces of the bipolar electrodes formed from rectangular porous plates of metal, semiconductor, or plastics rendered conductive by a filler, such projections being arranged to run in different directions on opposing plates and to be sufficiently close together to avoid them fitting one within the other, is improved by (a) the projections on each electrode comprise a number of elementary networks each occupying a strip parallel to the edges of the electrode, and each traversed successively by the electrode flowing between them, and each elementary network consisting of an array of (dis)continuous elongated, opt. rectilinear and mutually parallel projections, inclined at an angle other than zero to the edges of the electrode, and (b) the projections of two successive elementary networks of the same electrode extend in different directions such that the mean direction of flow of electrolyte on the electrode is perpendicular to the edges of this between which the flow takes place. |
