1,244,443. Butyraldehyde. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 17 Jan., 1969 [19 Jan., 1968], No. 2817/69. Heading C2C. Butyraldehyde, having a mainly linear carbon chain is obtained by the oxo process by reacting propylene with carbon monoxide and hydrogen at elevated temperatures and under superatmospheric pressure in the presence of a cobalt carbonyl compound as catalyst in two successive reaction stages with a higher temperature prevailing in the second reaction stage than in the first and with a substantially uniform temperature within each stage, wherein a ternperature of from 130‹ to 135‹ C. is is maintained in the first stage, a temperature of 140‹ to 145‹ C. is maintained in the second stage, 0.2 to 0.36 Kg. of propylene is supplied per litre of reaction space per hour, 1.5 to 2.5 g. of cobalt (calculated as cobalt metal) is used per kilogram of propylene supplied, in the form of a cobalt carbonyl compound or of a cobalt compound which is converted to a cobalt carbonyl compound under the reaction conditions, and carbon monoxide and hydrogen are used in a ratio of about 1: 1 by volume. n - Butanol and sec - butanol are obtained in minor amounts in the above process.
|
