PURPOSE: A power supply device for balancing a cell using an external battery cell and a cell balancing method thereof are provided to reduce unnecessary energy consumption due to a cell balancing by balancing the cell using an additional battery cell. CONSTITUTION: A battery pack(160) includes a plurality of internal battery cells. A BMS(Battery Management System)(170) controls a cell balancing of the internal battery cells in the battery pack. An external battery cell(140) is formed on the outer side of the battery pack. A cell balancing switch(150) switches an electrical connection between the external battery cell and one of the internal battery cells in the battery pack. A DC/DC down-converter(130) down-converts a high voltage of the battery pack into 12 V. A DC/DC up-converter(120) up-converts a low voltage of the external battery cell into 12V.
