FIELD: chemistry.SUBSTANCE: method for semi-quantitative or quantitative analysis of assays comprises steps of: assigning a unique barcode coded text segment on a test strip of the assay; acquiring an image having the barcode coded text segment together with response zones generated by the assay; identifying the unique barcode coded text segment in the acquired image, and using this image of the barcode coded text segment as an optical calibration entity; using the calibration information to detect positions of test result lines in the respective response zones generated by the assay.
