PURPOSE: An overheating preventing system and a method for an oven controller are provided to previously identify the information of temperature which reaches a dangerous level even when the temperature of the controller does not exceed a safety limit temperature, thereby minimizing cooking interruptions due to overheating. CONSTITUTION: An overheating preventing system and a method for an oven controller comprises a heating part(270), a controller temperature detecting part(220), and a controlling part(230). The heating part heats a cooking material inside a cavity. The controller temperature detecting part detects the temperature of a controller. The controlling part sets a first setting temperature which is the safety limit temperature of the controller, and a second temperature lower than the first temperature by a prescribed degree. The controlling part controls the heating part to continuously heat the cooking material when the temperature detected by the controller temperature detecting part is lower than the second setting temperature, or is between the second setting temperature and the first setting temperature. The controlling part outputs an informing message for a check necessary to be conducted when cooking is completed at the temperature detected by the controller temperature detecting part between the second setting temperature and the first setting temperature. The controlling part indicates an error informing sign on an indicating part when the temperature detected by the controller temperature detecting part is higher than the first setting temperature, and controls the controller to enter an error state.
