PURPOSE: A driving mode control method of a portable terminal and a device thereof are provided to minimize power consumption in a portable terminal while maintaining user convenience. CONSTITUTION: A control unit(10) confirms the pass of predetermined time in order to enter into a first power saving mode. If the predetermined time is passed, the control unit drives a camera module. The control unit confirms whether a subject is recognized by the camera module. If the set subject is recognized, the control unit delays entry to the first power saving mode. If the set subject is not recognized, the control unit enters into the first power saving mode.
