The present invention provides a portable playback device enabling a user to easily change the playback position of content data to be played back by the portable playback device. A determining unit (36) determines, when the position of the portable playback device (10) has been changed from a reference state to a tilted state whose tilt as detected by the tilt detecting unit (32) differs from the tilt of the reference state by a value equal to or greater than a reference value and is then returned from the tilted state to the reference state, whether or not the time elapsed from the change in the tilt of the portable playback device (10) from the reference state to the tilted state until the return to the reference state is within a reference period. When the elapsed time as determined by the determining unit (36) is within the reference period, the playback control unit (38) changes the playback position of the content data based on the direction of tilt relative to the reference state of the portable playback device in the tilted state.
