PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent interference from occurring due to the diffraction of an incoming PA-measuring laser beam.

SOLUTION: In the method of producing a glass fine particle deposit 3, glass fine particles are produced by heating glass raw material gas and flame-forming gas with a flame while a rotary starting material 2 or a burner 1 that spews the flame are relatively traversed reciprocatingly along a growth axis direction to produce the glass fine particles, and then the glass fine particles are deposited on the starting material. The glass fine particles are deposited so that the thickness of one glass fine particle layer formed by the deposition on each traverse are different from other adjoining glass fine particle layers.
