This lithium rechargeable battery is provided with a current collector (12), and an active material layer (14), which is held by current collector (12) and contains active material particles (30) and a conductive material (16). Each active material particle (30) has a shell section that is composed of a lithium transition metal oxide, a hollow section that is formed inside the shell section, and a through-hole that penetrates the shell section. The conductive material (16), which is contained in the active material layer (14), is disposed both in the hollow sections of the active material particles and between the active material particles (30).
