PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery charger constituted so as to charge a lithium secondary battery up to 90-95% of capacity within 4-6 minutes.

SOLUTION: A charger 10 for charging a rechargeable battery 12 determines a current level to apply to the rechargeable battery so that the battery has a pre-determined charge amount that is reached within a charging period of time of 4-6 minutes to apply charging current having substantially about the determined current level to the battery, and terminates the charging current after a charging period of time substantially equal to the particular period of time has elapsed.
