<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of assessing whether a patient is afflicted with a breast cancer. <P>SOLUTION: The method assesses expression of HE4/HE4a in a solid tissue sample, blood and serum, or a body fluid in contact with a patient obtained from the patient. Elevated expression of HE4 is an indication that the patient is afflicted with a breast cancer, and elevated expression of a second breast cancer marker is a further indication that the patient is afflicted with a breast cancer.
