Technique avoids the separate operation of removing the ridge of material which conventional techniques require. The ends of the sections are heated and pressed together whilst held in clamps from the end of which the sections project, and the ridge of material is removed from the welded joint, while the joint is formed by cutting devices attached to the clamps. The cutting devices may be sprung or separated by a distance so that the welding pressure is achieved just before the opposing cutters meet. |
