An ion generator having: an ion generation unit that generates positive ions by using corona discharge only, in one flowpath among two flowpaths that cause air sent by a fan to flow separately in the same direction and emit same to the outside; and an ion generation unit that generates negative-polarity charged particulate water using the electrostatic atomization effect, in the other flowpath. A throttle section is provided in one flowpath and the wind speed of the air flowing through one flowpath is increased to greater than the wind speed of the air flowing through the other flowpath. More positive ions, which have a shorter life, are emitted than the negative-polarity charged particulate water, which has a longer life, and a balance between positive and negative polarity in the air is maintained over a long period. |
