The invention relates to a composition for the shirring of artificial sausage casings, that provides the sausage casing with a high level of adhesion in relation to the meat paste therein. The composition of the invention comprises at least a thermosetting polycation resin component, a polyol component and water, in which the water activity index (aw) is greater than or equal to 0.70. In addition, the invention relates to a sausage casing impregnated with the aforementioned composition, the meat product encased in said casing and the method for impregnating the sausage casing with the composition of the invention.
