Provided is a base station such that it is possible to improve the reception quality at a mobile station when downlink communication that employs different frequency bands is performed with a plurality of antennas. A base station (100) communicates with a mobile station (300) with at least one of a communication scheme which simultaneously uses a plurality of frequencies, or a communication scheme which uses one frequency among the plurality of frequencies. The base station (100) includes: a DL transmission mode determining unit for determining which transmission mode to use on the basis of the communication with the mobile station, the transmission modes being a first transmission mode in which pieces of information different from each other are transmitted using the plurality of frequencies simultaneously and a second transmission mode in which the same pieces of information are transmitted using the plurality of frequencies simultaneously; and a transmission processing unit for carrying out downlink transmission with respect to the mobile station (300) in the determined transmission mode.
