<p>The present invention provides a water electrolysis device that suppresses a transient response in a water electrolysis reaction, and that is also capable of dealing with a fluctuating electrical power input by exercising simple control. This water electrolysis device is a water electrolysis device (101) that obtains hydrogen and oxygen by performing electrolysis of water, and comprises the following: a hydrogen generating pole (104) for generating hydrogen by water electrolysis; an oxygen generating pole (102) for generating oxygen by water electrolysis; a cathode (103) for use in a double-layer capacitor opposite the oxygen generating pole (102); and an electrolytic vessel (109) for housing the hydrogen generating pole (104), the oxygen generating pole (102), the cathode (103) for use in a double-layer capacitor, and an electrolyte (105). The oxygen generating pole (102) is used as an anode for use in a double-layer capacitor, and the oxygen generating pole (102) and the cathode (103) for use in a double-layer capacitor constitute the double-layer capacitor. The double-layer capacitor and the water electrolysis cell constituted by the hydrogen generating pole (104) and the oxygen generating pole (102) are electrically connected in parallel.</p> |
