<p>PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display device and a driving method thereof are provided to protect diodes by detecting and determining an LED short circuit of an LED string connected to a corresponding channel. CONSTITUTION: A backlight unit(BLU) provides a light. A backlight unit driver(BDRV) operates the backlight unit. The backlight unit comprises LED strings(RS1-RSm). The LED strings comprises a first LED string(RS1) and a m LED string(RSm). The first and m LED string are connected to an output terminal(Vout) of a DC power part(120) in parallel. LEDs(D1-Dn) are connected in series in the LED string. The DC power part converts a first DC power into a second DC power. Transistors(T1, Tm) synchronize the current flowing through the LED string and emit light with the corresponding LED string. Monitor resistors(R1, Rm) helps monitoring current. An LED driver(130) determines the short circuit of the LED. The LED driver controls the output voltage of the DC power part.</p> |
