PURPOSE: A device and a method for identifying resins are provided to reduce misjudgment of the device and to improve identification precision by changing an order of a spectral analysis regardless of the existence of additives. CONSTITUTION: A device for identifying resins comprises an infrared ray analysis device(30) and a controller(40). The infrared ray analysis device successively irradiates infrared lights(L1) to a plurality of target resins(1) and obtains spectra of infrared lights(L2). The controller identifies the sort of the target resins based on the obtained infrared reflection spectra. The infrared ray analysis device determines the existence of infrared lights of a specific frequency region, which are penetrated through the target resins, reflected by a sample holder, and penetrated through the target resins again, based on the obtained infrared reflection spectra. The controller identifies the sort of the target resins according to a result of the determination.
