Obtained is an automobile side airbag device that can, via a simple configuration, achieve both a decreased load on the chest of a passenger and an increase in initial restraining performance resulting from a side airbag. In the side airbag device, a bent hole section (40) is formed from the sewn section (S1) between a main panel (24) and a lateral panel (28) being interrupted at a portion thereof. Also, flaps (24A, 28A) provided to the main panel (24) and the lateral panel (28) are inserted from the bent hole section (40) into the chest chamber (34). The flaps (24A, 28A) occlude the bent hole section (40) by means of the internal pressure of the chest chamber (34) at least until the side airbag (20) expands and deploys between the passenger and the door trim. Meanwhile, when the internal pressure of the chest chamber (34) rises by means of the chest chamber (34) being compressed between the passenger and the door trim, the flaps (24A, 28A) are pushed out of an airbag main body section (30), and the bent hole section (40) is opened. |
