The method involves determining an efficiency of an exhaust gas recirculation radiator of a motor car (10). The operation of a combustion engine (12) of the motor car is controlled such that a regeneration of the exhaust gas recirculation radiator is introduced, if the determined efficiency falls below a predetermined value.
