Provided is a method for producing a conjugated diene polymer capable of being used in vehicle tires, and as a starting material for a cross-linking polymer capable of improving the fuel economy performance of vehicles. A method for producing a denatured conjugated diene polymer includes a polymerization step for obtaining a denatured conjugated diene polymer by polymerizing a monomer containing a conjugated diene compound, or a monomer containing a conjugated diene compound and an aromatic vinyl compound, with at least one type of compound selected from a group consisting of formula (1) and formula (2), while in the presence of an alkali metal compound or an alkali earth metal compound. (In the formula, A1 has a 3-substituted hydrocarbyl silyl group, and one type of atom selected from a group consisting of N, P and S, and does not have an active hydrogen; R1 represents a functional group bonded by the N, P or S atom; and R1 and R2 represent a hydrocarbylene group.
