PURPOSE: A modified reading channel is provided to simplify an analog circuit design by transferring a part of signal processing load from an analog domain to a digital domain. CONSTITUTION: An analog input signal(210) is obtained via AC coupling(215). The analog input signal is amplified through a variable gain amplifier(ACC,220) and is summed with an offset value(242) using an summing element(240). A summed signal is provided to a selective MRA compensation filter(265) approximating an inverse transfer function required for linearizing output of a reading head. CTF(225) filters unwanted noise from a received analog signal. An oversampling ADC(250) performs oversampled analog-digital conversion and generates a plurality of digital samples corresponding to the analog input signal for a specific bit interval.
