A pneumatic tyre has distributed throughout the depth and circumference of its tread 1, steel wires substantially shorter than the tread width and each having a diameter of 0À003 of an inch or less. The wires may be orientated at random or in a specific direction, e.g. circumferentially. Preferably, the lengths of the wires lie between ¢ and 3 inches. A radially inner portion 2 of the tread 1 may be devoid of steel wires. |
