PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pharmaceutical composition containing a first nerve protecting agent and a second nerve protecting agent, and to provide a method for treating motoneuron diseases including administration of the pharmaceutical composition containing the nerve protecting agents.

SOLUTION: This invention relates to: a new therapeutic target for motoneuron diseases (dynamic alteration of microtubules in neurons); a method for measuring the active state of this therapeutic target in a subject that has initial or potential motoneuron disease; drug agents that modulate neuronal microtubule dynamics in a living subject that has motoneuron disease; a remarkable neuroprotective therapy including delay in symptoms and prolongation of survival for a living subject that has motoneuron disease by administration of such agents, alone or in combinations; and a diagnostic monitoring method for optimizing therapy and strategy of individual subject or agent clinical trial by monitoring microtubule dynamics of neurons in a subject that has motoneuron disease, in response to therapeutic intervention.
