The present invention relates to a device and a method for filtration of a liquid that is to be filtered using a strip-shaped filter medium that can be conveyed in the longitudinal direction thereof from a store via a preset path to a reservoir for consumed filter material and can be exposed towards the filtrate side to a reduced pressure, wherein a filtrate chamber that can be at a reduced pressure is bordered towards an unfiltrate chamber facing away from the filtrate side by the filter medium, wherein the filtrate chamber, towards the unfiltrate chamber, has a liquid-permeable covering in partial regions, which covering itself is covered by the filter medium towards the unfiltrate chamber and forms a fixed support surface, over which the filter medium can be conveyed, and in that the covering is sealed with respect to the enclosing side walls of the filtrate chamber.
