The air spring (1) has a bellows (2) with two rolling loops (5,6), a rolling piston (4) for the former rolling loop and a cover (3) with a contact surface (7) for the latter rolling loop. The air spring is axially compressed, so that the former rolling loop of the bellows covers a partial area of the total height (H) of the rolling surface on the rolling piston and adjoins the latter rolling loop on the cover. An independent claim is included for a method for axially reducing the length of a completely assembled air spring.
