PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detection method capable of accurately detecting a target object while keeping acceleration based on shape data obtained when the target object is measured as a three-dimensional point group.

SOLUTION: The detection method includes: a shape data acquisition step (S1) for acquiring shape data of a sphere as a three-dimensional measurement point group from three-dimensional measurement means; an area division step (S41) for dividing an object area occupied by the sphere in a virtual coordinate space in accordance with addition information of respective measurement points; an object area extraction step (S43) for extracting an estimation area estimated as the sphere from respective divided object areas; and an object recognition step (S44) for generating an estimated sphere in each estimation area and defining an estimated object recognized as the object as a recognized object.
