The device has a displacing head which comprises a channel extending to an output gap and a blade (10). A material web is guided through the channel. The blade is introduced to a cover position for covering the material web in the channel. The distance between two longitudinal edges of the material web measured transverse to introducing direction of the blade is smaller than the breadth of the blade and smaller than the breadth of the material web in flat outstretched condition in the cover position. The breadth of the material web is measured parallel to its surface.
