A method of preparing sustained release granules, including an active substance, comprises the steps of preparing a granulate by blending at least 70% by weight of an active substance and balance of an inert substance, granulating and extruding in granules of predetermined size; spheronizing the granules until perfect spheres are obtained; and then coating the spheronized granules with a semipermeable film-forming substance. The granules may be spheronized by the action of centrifugal force and friction by causing them to rotate in vessels having a bottom provided with perforations of the diameter intended for the finished spheres. A suitable apparatus is described. Active substances specified are vitamin C, dextropropoxyphene and oxeladine. |
