In the present invention, hardware resource information is backed up without granting host authority to a virtual machine. An agent (113) operating on a host OS (110) detects a guest OS (111) that is the OS to be backed up. Then, the agent (113) extracts a configuration file (112) corresponding to the guest OS (111) from a management region (114) of the host OS that will be a first storage region. Then, the agent (113) copies the configuration file (112) into a VHD file (115) that will be a second storage region while the VHD file (115) is not mounted onto a backup tool (121). After the copying, the backup tool (121) mounts and reads the VHD file (115), and backs up the configuration file (112).
