A gradient coil comprises a first layer composed of a first plurality of turns, spiraling along an inner side wall of a cylindrical substrate in a first helical direction from an upper edge to a lower edge or vice versa, where the turns traverse the substrate and then spiral along an outer side wall of the substrate in a second helical direction, so that each turn circles along the side walls of the substrate and includes a first portion wound along the inner side wall and a second portion wound along the outer side wall. A second layer of coil spirals in a similar manner along the inner side wall of the cylindrical substrate in the second helical direction, traverses the substrate and then spirals along the outer side wall of the cylindrical substrate in the first helical direction. The azimuth angle subtended by the first portion is greater than the second portion. |
